June 2, 2012 – Newark, NJ
The Los Angeles Kings stunned the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in overtime of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals. Jeff Carter, in one smooth circle starting on goaltender Martin Brodeur’s left-hand side, shot, skated behind the net, picked up the puck that was bouncing around, continued circling to Brodeur’s right and then fired the the wrist shot again, this time through a maze of bodies that somehow found the back of the net.
Kings defenseman Drew Doughty put the Kings on the scoreboard first with an end-to-end rush, threading his way through Devils defenseman and beating Brodeur with a wrist shot to the stick side at 7:49 in the first period. The Devils would tie it up at 3:01 into the third period when Ryan Carter deflected Marek Zidlicky’s long shot.
This is the second time the game has been decided in overtime, both times in the Kings’s favor. The Devils trail two games to none in this best-of-seven series.
