The Daytona 500 witnessed the most unusual crash between Juan Pablo Montoya and a truck outfitted with a helicopter jet engine drying the track. The huge fireball lit up the night sky but the drivers of both vehicles escaped unharmed.

A mechanical failure caused Montoya to lose control of his car as he drove down the track, swerving right into the slow-moving truck. 200 gallons of jet fuel ignited instantly, causing the race to be red-flagged.
