Dodgers turn a triple-play against the Padres

April 15, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA

Confusion reigned as the Dodgers threw first and asked questions later. They are rewarded with a triple-play, as the pitch hit the bat (fair ball), thus putting the ball into play and the ball goes around the horn to record at an out at each base.

With Padres at first and second, the third-baseman tags his base for the first out, the shortstop tags second base for the second out and throws to first for the final out.

Despite much criticism of the home plate umpire ruling the ball fair instead of foul, replays showed that he made the right call.

The Dodgers defeated the Padres, 5-4.
