May 25, 2012 – Newark, NJ
The New Jersey Devils stunned the New York Rangers with an overtime goal, winning Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals 4 games to 2, and moving on to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Outshot and outhit, the Devils outscored the Rangers early on, leading 2-0 going into the second period. But the Rangers came back, scoring twice less than four minutes in the second period to tie the game. But that would be the end of their scoring.
Rookie Adam Henrique scored 63 seconds into overtime and sent the Prudential Center into pandemonium and the Rangers into the offseason.
Martin Brodeur was outstanding with 33 saves and for Henrique, this was his second overtime clinching goal of the postseason, the first being a Game 7 double overtime goal against Florida.
The Devils meet the Los Angeles Kings, who defeated the Phoenix Coyotes earlier in the week.
