Coach’s “Nasty” Spurs Team to Game 1 Win

May 27, 2012 – San Antonio, TX

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich ordered his team to play “nasty” during a fourth-quarter timeout in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals. Down nine points, the team rose to the occasion as they rose past the Oklahoma Thunder on their way to victory, 101 to 98.

Led by guard Manu Ginobili’s 26 points, they scored 39 points in the 4th quarter and tied a record for 19 consecutive postseason victories, set by the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers and unmatched until now. Tim Duncan had 16 points and 11 boards while Tony Parker finished with 18. Thunder’s Kevin Durant had 27 points and Russell Westbrook added 17.

Poor shooting from Westbrook plus late fouls by James Harden, Kevin Durant and Westbrook hobbled the Thunder in the fourth quarter.
