May 26, 2012 – Chicago, IL
Cleveland Indians centerfielder Michael Brantley reached over the wall to catch a fly ball hit to straightaway centerfield by Chicago White Sox Alex Rios, saving three runs in the effort.
Derek Lowe was on the mound in the bottom of the first inning and struggling to get outs. With one out, men on first and second, Rio hit a long fly ball that sent Brantley racing straight back. With perfect timing, he jumped and reached over the wall to glove the ball and hold the runners with a fast throw back in.
Regrettably for Cleveland, this would slow Chicago only slightly, as they would pound Lowe for 8 runs on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings. Rios hit a two-run no-doubter in the 8th inning and the Indians would lose 14-7.
